Sharon Osbourne Still Hates Bruce Dickinson: “He’s a F***ing Asshole”

Team Ozzy and Team Iron Maiden have a few issues stemming back to Ozzfest 2005, namely Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson. Basically, in 2005, the power was cut during Maiden’s last Ozzfest performance, which led to an extremely-negative crowd response (shocker!). Sharon Osbourne then took the stage and explained that it was because Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson had disrespected her husband throughout the tour and this was payback.

In a recent interview with the Osbournes, Consequence asked Ozzy if he compared himself to singers like Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio.

“Bruce Dickinson is a great singer, but as a person, I’ve worked with him, and he’s not very nice. Ronnie James Dio is no longer alive. He was a great singer. I didn’t really know him so well. I’m not one of these guys who says many things about people. The truth is the truth. I met Ronnie James Dio a couple of times. He took my [Black Sabbath] gig. But at the same time, I can’t complain because I did great on my own.

“But I don’t sing for a judge. I sing for my fans. If my fans don’t buy my music, that would tell me my singing isn’t any good anymore, but they’re still buying my records. I’m my own worst critic. I don’t rate myself more than Ronnie James Dio or Bruce Dickinson. That’s not my gig. I don’t care. I have fun doing what I do. My goal is to turn my fucking audience on. And that’s what I try to do. I’m not interested if someone thinks I’m a fucking joke. That’s fine. That’s their opinion.”

Ozzy may not have wanted to get into the mud about his beef with Dickinson, but Sharon has no such qualms.

“Bruce Dickinson is a fucking prick. Well, no, he’s not a prick because a prick’s nice. He’s a fucking asshole. Because the situation is he was on a tour called Ozzfest. And Ozzy Osbourne was paying him every night to perform. He accepted the gig. He knew what he was doing. He accepted the gig. And every night he would go onstage and say bad things about Ozzy. And the crew and everybody in all the other bands would be like, ‘Are you letting him get away with it?’ And I’m like, ‘I sure am.’ But the last gig was [just outside of] L.A. And I thought, ‘You motherfucker, now you’re gonna get it.’

“And so I had about 20 people in the audience and a lot of them were nurses from Cedars Sinai, because I had cancer at that time. And they were all my chemo nurses. And they all came down, and they fucking pelted the shit out of him. And my thing is, you play, you pay!

“And the thing is, if you’re being paid to do a gig, but you don’t like the person, then fuck off. But don’t stay, take the money, take all the good that’s coming to your band through being on a festival, doing 24 shows and still slagging the person that’s paying you. It’s like, ‘No, that makes you a fucking asshole.’ And he is. And he’s never apologized, he never even went up and said hello to Ozzy. The thing about him is that he is just so jealous. And always has been of Ozzy. And that’s his problem.

“Because the thing is about Bruce Dickinson, he’s hugely successful. He’s got a great fan base, a great fan base that have been loyal. The band are great guys. All the band are great. And they do great. You know, they’re a great band, you can’t take it away, and neither would I take that away from them. But the thing about Bruce is, he is unknown to the public. Bruce Dickinson could walk into anywhere and nobody would know who the fuck he is. Do you know what I’m saying?

“He’s a faceless singer to the general public. People aren’t scrambling to get him for an interview. And the thing is, he’s not interesting. But the thing is, Ozzy is original and Bruce isn’t and that’s what eats Bruce away.”

I guess that means we won’t be seeing Iron Maiden in the Metaverse anytime soon.

Obituary Announce Album Dying of Everything and We Have an Exclusive Vinyl Variant, Hear “The Wrong Time” Now

It’s not very often that death metal titans like Obituary put out a new record, but Dying of Everything is coming out on January 13 and we’ve got access to the first single “The Wrong Time” below. That’s right — don’t adjust your monitors — new Obituary. Right. Fucking. Now.

The band themselves describe their forthcoming album as being in the same vein as early releases like Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death while maintaining a modern production value.

“We couldn’t be more excited to finally get this new album out and into the hands of the fans! We chose “The Wrong Time” for the first single as it is a true depiction of the sound, style and feel we went for in the studio and is a great taste of what you can expect from Dying of Everything.”

Dying of Everything will be the band’s first full-length studio release since 2017’s Obituary. And while this would be a huge occasion on its own for any Obituary fan, we’ve got our hands on an exclusive vinyl variant thanks to our collaboration with Gimme Metal.

Former Queensrÿche Singer Geoff Tate Announces Operation: Mindcrime 35th Anniversary Tour

Next year, Queensrÿche‘s third studio album, the progressive metal masterpiece Operation: Mindcrime, turns 35 years old. To commemorate the milestone, original Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate will embark on an anniversary tour, performing the album in full.

So far, Tate has announced a 9-date UK trek for the performance, presumably with other dates to be announced in the future. When announcing the tour, he said:

“It’s strange to think about, but this is my perspective. I wasn’t actually even gonna do it again. I get requests — so many requests — to play this record in its entirety… So Ahh… Okay. One more time, just one more time.”

Operation: Mindcrime was originally released in May of 1988. It is a concept album that details the story of Nikki, a drug addict who is brought into a web of political assassins. It’s widely regarded as one of the best metal concept albums of all time and spawned a sequel album that was not nearly as well received.

Tate was fired from Queensrÿche in 2012, which led to a lawsuit over the band’s name. His bandmates retained the original name while he received the exclusive rights to perform Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II in full.

Hallowed Be Thy Game: Brütal Legend is a Love Letter to Heavy Metal

(Editor’s note: Let’s face it — most metalheads are a buncha nerds. To that end, Hallowed Be Thy Game is a weekly feature here on MetalSucks where we’ll highlight some of the metal-as-fuck board/video/tabletop role playing games we’re playing or have played in the past.)

As a lifelong gamer and metalhead, there have been very few moments where the Venn diagram of both those passions became just one circle. Sure, some games can be metal, but very few actually are metal. Few speak to our unmitigated love of the music — in fact, few developers even really understand what heavy metal is and what it means to people like you and me.

So when Tim Schafer (no relation to Jon Schaffer) and his company Double Fine Productions announced they were making an video game that paid tribute to heavy metal in all its forms, I was stoked. When Brütal Legend finally came out back in October 2009, I was excited but unprepared for just how metal a video game could actually get.

For those that either weren’t around or weren’t aware, Brütal Legend was looked at by non-metalheads as just another action/roleplaying game in an era where there were so many third-person action RPGs. But this one was different. In this game, you take on the role of a battle-vest wearing, mullet-sporting, cigarette-draggin’ roadie named Eddie Riggs, who’s voiced by Jack Black. The dude longs for the days of old school metal but is stuck handling the on-stage goings on of what sounds like a horrific nu-metal band called Kabbage Boy. It’s just… bad.

Luckily, we’re not subjected to their music for long, as the band is killed in an on-stage incident and an unconscious Riggs is transported to a magical world where heavy metal reigns and every vista is fit for an album cover.

Right from the get-go, you’re hit in the face with the biggest and most important aspects of this game — the soundtrack. The first time you gain control of Eddie Riggs, you’re tasked with killing a buncha murderous cultists. That’s nothing new in a game like this, but what is new is the fact you’re doing it to “Children of the Grave” by Black Sabbath.

Throughout the entire game, you’re never too far from hearing a badass metal tune. As you drive around the wasteland, you could be jamming out to “Am I Evil?” by Diamond Head one minute and then the next moment you’re tearing it up while “This Spake The Nightspirit” by Emperor blares from your TV screen. The soundtrack is extensive, covers multiple decades, and spans so many sub-genres of metal. It’s obvious that only a metalhead like Tim Schaffer could have come up with the track list because it’s so meticulously put together.

Getting back to the game, Riggs slays demons, teams up with headbanging warriors, and meets some interesting characters to aid him on his quest to help destroy the demons that plague the land. And that’s another area where the game shows its love for metal on its sleeve. Some of the most important characters are voiced by some of the most important people in metal and rock. We’re talking Lemmy Kilmister, Lita Ford, Ozzy Osbourne, and Rob Halford. Hell, Halford voices two characters. It’s such a trip to speed into a lava filled area in your souped up hot rod only to be face to face with a digital likeness of Ozzy a second later.

And while the second half of the game kinda goes off the rails a bit with a sudden shift in gameplay, Brütal Legend never loses sight of the metal. I could go on and on about the plot, the characters, the music, the scenery, really everything, but it’s just easier if you check it out yourself.

Brütal Legend is available on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC via Steam and other online marketplaces. It’s also on Xbox Game Pass for consoles, so no reason to not give it a try if you’re a subscriber!
